Issued Frankfort, Germany, 1719 for A.M. Mallet
Charming early 18th century copper engraved print, with pleasing full hand color. Very few examples are encountered with such nice detailed hand color.
Outstanding if not curious image. The dramatic floor tile perspective effect is hard to miss, there is an engraved line from the gentlemans eyes to the reflection of the moonlit sky in the water.
The image has a near folk-art feel, a style of cartographic image quite unique to this time in history. Utterly unlike anything produced today and of modern aesthetic appeal for this very reason.
Very clean & well preserved example, large wide margins all around.
Sheet measures c. 5" x 8"
Printed area measures c. 4" x 5 3/4"
