508 pages. Text in English. Complete with 16 full page wood engravings. Hand colored frontispiece of panning for gold protected by original tissue guard.

The plates include early views of Monterey, San Jose, an early spanish house in San Francisco, gambling, etc. A very scarce variant edition, the frontis of gold panning not actually called for in the list of plates.

Publisher's cloth binding, gilt spine lettering and compartment decorations now faded, embossed cover designs. Binding remains tight and sound, light staining and rubbing. Interior contents display a pleasing age patina, moderate to heavy age spotting throughout.

Book remains well preserved and attractive on the shelf. It displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, the age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
