3 volumes, each c. 650 pages. Text in English. Profusely illustrated throughout with 34 full page tipped in color (chromolithographed) plates and hundreds of wood engravings.

Large, heavy, monumental set with a profusion of plates throughout.

Period publishers 1/2 leather bindings, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt compartment decorations & title lettering, marbled end papers.

Item is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Item is not new or in "new" condition.

Binding age worn, front joint leather scuffed, short split at base of first vol. joint, all covers still sturdy and sound, cloth spotted and worn in spots, yet still remains overall very attractive on the shelf.

Text block paper is toned, some blank margins smudged, overall clean.

Still attractive on the shelf. Item displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
