North America United States c.1850 shows apocryphal Columbia District in OregonBrian DiMambro- Antiquarian Books, Maps & Prints
(North America, United States, Mexico, Canada, Alaska).
Issued c.1850-4, Germany. Engraved by Franz Biller.
Across Oregon Territory is named "District of Columbia" which never actually existed in this location. New Britain across Canada, Russian America for Alaska (which displays a curious outline shape). New California still within Mexico as is Texas. The cartography is actually years prior to the date of issuance of the map.
Attractive and interesting mid-19th century engraved German map, with lovely original outline hand color.
Nice looking example, pleasing age patina, any minor age flaws easy to overlook or forgive.
Sheet Measures c. 8 3/4"H x 11 1/4"W.
Engraved Area Measures c. 7 7/8"H x 9 7/8"W.
