Plan-Bijou de Paris
par AGNUS Aine
Issued 1886, Paris by A. Michels
Delightful miniature color lithographed antique pocket map. Charming tiny size, front cover ornately stamped in decorative Art Nouveau style gilt lettering. Red pebble cloth, gilt titled and outlined ruled on both boards. Map affixed to rear board as issued, front pastedown printed with text.
Would fit right into a library of miniature books and look like a folio map book. Almost certainly scarce, if not rare.
Folder opens to a miniature 28 pp. Index booklet which appear to list thousands of streets and places names, tramlines, all given with their co-ordinates on the map.
On the reverse is a second map "Cartes Generale des Chemins de Fer"- Environs de Paris which has vignette scenery in the bottom corners and a list down right side of countless railway trips one could take in the area.
As originally issued long ago, an actual antique/ vintage printed sheet of paper, not a modern copy or reprint. The paper sheet could show various minor signs of age, but if we are offering it for sale, you can be 100% certain it is entirely worthy of ownership by even the most discerning collector or dealer.
Map sheet remains well preserved, keeping in mind it is not modern or new, so minor flaws to paper unworthy of specific mention are sometimes to be expected. Some light age wear or surface spotting/ soiling, all of which is hopefully visible within the zoomable scan. Binding still attractive and mostly clean, splitting along paper joints resulting in the boards being slightly loosened.
An urban plan presented in a manner entirely unique to this era.
Covers measures c. 2 5/8" H x 3 3/4 " W.
Map sheet measures c.14 " H x 17 1/4 " W
A picture is worth a thousand words. The scan is a major part of the item description. Please examine it closely, as what you see is what we will send you.
[note: we grade conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws.].
Paper and image remains overall clean & sound. Old maps & prints often display small minor repairs on the back, could have uneven blank margins, might have extraneous fold-lines or other small minor age flaws which do not detract from the visual appeal or value. Condition is carefully considered in arriving at our price.
