Philadelphia U.S. America -- May 10th to November 10th, 1876
(United States, Philadelphia, American Centennial Celebration Exposition, 19th Century Architecture, Building Floor Plan).
Issued Philadelphia, 1875-6 by Centennial Chart Co. Lmtd.; S. Crawford.
Fine and charming little 19th century lithographed commemorative map relating to Philadelphia celebrating the centennial anniversary of the United States in 1876.
Scarce vintage prospect-view print. A superior visual example, rarely encountered with such excellent artistic hand color.
With superior and highly artistic detailed hand color which brings the image to visual life.Above the view of the main Exhibition building are two smaller inset views. Detailed plan of the incredible 1880' long x 464' wide expo building itself across the bottom.
Endless objects & artifacts relating to this expo exist and one could also simultaneously collect numismatic medals, stereo-views of the interior of the building (for which many dozens/ hundreds exist), ephemeral paper items, maps, guide books, souvenirs, philatelic items, etc. This print would be a nice little gem in any of these collections.
Minor light surface age wear and toning as typical, the toning visible down the center in the scan is due to a black background behind the sheet (thin bond paper), on white paper it doesn't exist. Overall a superior visual example.
Original fold line as issued.Sheet measures c. 10" x 8"
Engraved area measures c. 9" x 7 1/2"
