Rare antique World Map 1813 Molini Italian Interesting Australia strange US mts.Brian DiMambro -Historical Investments
Issued Florence, Italy, 1813 by Molini
Fascinating early 19th century folio sheet map of the world in hemispheres. Nicely detailed with a curious mountain geography in the United States, including a huge mountain range extending from the Rockies across to Florida!
Includes extensive historical information across the bottom, primarily in the form of a chronological list of discoveries, as well as extensive information within the spheres themselves.
A wonderful depicition of Australia for this early date, with a mountain range on the southern coast. Note the incredible mountain ranges within Africa, including the mythical Mountains of the Moon. Also a very strange series of mountains stretching across North America, almost from the Atlantic to the Pacific!
In good+, mostly clean condition. Sheet displays light scattered spotting, foxing and edge-wear, some minor soiling in blank margins from handling, extraneous fold running close and parallel to centerfold, 4" bottom centerfold split now cleanly re-inforced on verso with archival tape.
Otherwise sheet remains clean and quite well-preserved overall.
A fascinating and rare Italian produced world map many collectors would not possess.
Sheet measures c. 27 1/2" W x 21 1/8" H.
Printed area measures c. 25" W x 20" H.
Folio. Original fold line as issued.
