(South Africa voyages and early exploration travels- rare books).
Voyage de Monsieur Le Vaillant, Dans L'interieur De L'Afrique, in 2 vols.
1791, Paris, Chez Les Libraires Associes. Illustrated with 11 (of 12) engraved plates. French text.
Contains nice panoramic harbor view of the Cape of Good Hope with Table Mountain (modern day Cape Town). Also includes two images of giraffes, other natives, a village scene, etc.
Recently bound in blue cloth, old red leather gilt title spine labels, marbled boards. Original 18th century marbled paper covers bound in. Title page in volume 1 only, eleven (of twelve) engraved views and plates, appears to lack one of the four Hottentot ethnographic plates. Some light old damp staining to some leaves, minor paper flaws, entirely unsophisticated survival, lacking a plate perhaps only due to binders error or other omission.
Text blocks untrimmed as issued, wide margins, original deckled paper edges..
