Issued Amsterdam, c. 1786-88 by Nicholaes Theodorus Gravius.

Engraved by Lindeman.

Fascinating late 18th century antique engraved map with nice outline hand color.

Of particular note is the prominent depiction of Australia with the entire East coast still blank and unexplored. New Zealand is also undefined. Numerous other hints of land masses with undefined coasts across the Southern Ocean region.

Curious inset maps at left include Soloman Island group, particularly Guadalcanal and above it Bouvet Island, Cape Circumcision of the Antarctic continent, etc.

Minor light toning and small scattered age spotting as typical for maps of this vintage, perhaps some minor paper flaws, but to our eyes and for most people, an entirely acceptable and very nice looking example of this antique map.

Original fold lines as issued.

Sheet measures c. 8 1/4" x 12 1/4".

Printed area measures c. 7" x 10 1/2".
