Significant for the transitory depiction of western states Washington, Oregon, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico as short-lived elongated Territories. This combination of territories in this visible arrangement only existed for a very brief historical moment, and is captured in this manner is relatively few maps of this era. An elusive state of this nice map with erroneous interior topographical features shown in the American west. Early appearance on a map of the place name "Golden Gate" at the entrance to San Francisco harbor, California. Alaska still belonging to Russia, a vast Northwest Territory in Canada.
Excellent mid-19th century antique map. Engraved with original outline hand color.
Sheet displays small minor signs of age, light evidence of time and some handling, but overall still quite clean and well preserved. A nice old antique map with fine visual appeal and age patina.
