Map Exhibiting the Navigable Rivers, The Completed & Proposed Canals & Rail-Roads of Great Britain & Ireland with the Coal Fields, Light Houses &c.;

(Europe, British Isles, United Kingdom, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Railroads, Canals, Light Houses).

Issued NY, c. 1847-55 by Harper & Brothers. Engraved by Charles Copley.

Very scarce mid-19th century large folio map printed on thin bond paper.

Of note for the highly unusual paper stock used as well as the detailed inset maps. Also of note for the titled emphasis upon coal (economics & Industrial Revolution) as well as Light Houses, indicating the importance of shipping and commerce related to the sea.

Dublin (Ireland) Bay top right, Caledonian Canal below, then large inset lower left of River Thames from London to the Goodwin Sands.

Overall the map & paper display well and are mostly clean. Light scattered foxing age spots. Very narrow blank margin down right edge as issued, slight inset tab top right.

Clean 4" tear at right edge from top fold line closed neatly on back with thin tissue paper. This is easy to overlook or forgive visually.

Original fold lines as issued.

Sheet measures c. 23 3/4" x 21"

Engraved area measures c.23" x 19"
