Uncle Sam & Columbia color cartoon images 1899-1904 lot x 6 rare newspapersBrian DiMambro- Antique & Vintage Maps, Prints, Books & Gold Coins
Saturday Globe- Utica, NY newspaper. Rare local weekend paper.
(Late 19th- early 20th century- Uncle Sam- Columbia)
Nice lot of six (6) antique newspaper offset color lithographed cartoon cover prints, all depicting the national symbols of either Uncle Sam, Columbia or both.
Without question rare individually, unique as a lot.
Six (6) issues including:
January 14, 1899.
March 30, 1901.
January 25, 1902.
November 29, 1902.
March 5, 1904.
August 13, 1904.
All are visually attractive, color images in mostly clean and nice condition, soft old creases down center from folding long ago, any age flaws or condition issues are easy to forgive or overlook given they are newsprint whhich is inherently fragile and prone to slow gradual wood pulp based paper acidification over the years.
All remain unopened as issued, each issue of the newspaper essentially unfolding to a giant single sheet of paper printed on both sides.
Sheets all measures c. 17" x 22 3/4".
Printed areas measures c. 7 3/4" x 10 1/2".
