(Caribbean- Florida- Cuba- Mosquito Coast- northern South America)
Issued 1794, London by H.D. Symonds, Engraved by John Russell.Longitude given from London.
This small folio sheet late 18th century copper engraved map of the Caribbean shows inaccurate schematic mountains, rivers, lakes, towns, bays, islands and shoals.
The southern part of the United States, including Florida and the Mississippi Delta, is shown at the top. East and West Florida are depicted. This is one of nine maps engraved by Russell and published in John Reid's An American Atlas.*
Minor light old offsetting due to folding format of engraved image, but still mostly clean and visually attractive. Narrow blank margin lower left edge due to folding & binding inset tab above it, tiny corner chip in lower right blank margin.
Map has several well done and essentially invisible old paper fold-line repairs on reverse, a short old inset tab tear at middle left repaired long ago as well with short tape on reverse. Map displays well, worthy of display.
Sheet measures c. 14 1/2" H x 20 1/4" W.
Printed area measures c. 13 7/8" x 19 7/8".
